Milkshaking is a term used in horse training and racing to describe a specific practice aimed at enhancing a horse's performance. It involves administering a mixture of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and water to the horse, typically through a nasogastric tube, to reduce the acidity of its blood and increase its ability to transport oxygen.

The idea behind milkshaking is to delay the onset of fatigue by reducing the buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Lactic acid is a natural byproduct of intense exercise, and it can lead to muscle fatigue and soreness. By reducing the acidity of the blood, milkshaking is believed to allow horses to perform at a higher intensity for longer periods.

Racing today (9 April 2024) has been moved from the Vaal Main Track to the Vaal Classic Track.

This moves takes place after the gallops this morning and it was unanimously agreed that the Classic Track is raceable while the Vaal Main Track was inconsistent.

Unfortunately, it’s currently overcast and there is a possibility of further rainfall which could jeopardize the move, but we are giving the meeting the best possible chance to go ahead. According to our weather app it should start to clear up from 11am.

Today's main race at Scottsville, race 7, a MR 94 Handicap, was won by KING OF THE GAULS.

That gives Tony Rivalland two wins for the day.

Tony Rivalland's GORGEOUS GIRL wins the Maiden Plate, race 3, at Scottsville by a full 3 lengths.

Riding GORGEOUS GIRL was Richard Fourie who won a total of 3 races today making him the jockey of the day.

Kobeli Lihaba, Chase Maujean, Rachel Venniker, Sean Veale and Serino Moodley each added a win to their names today.
